To preserve the rich tradition of Indian art and culture, and to carry it forward to a new generation, to today’s artists, and to audiences across the world.

Our vision

This is the vision at the heart of everything Megh Mandal Sansthan does. It is not a vision of custodianship alone of simply safeguarding what already exists but one of active, living continuity: taking a centuries-deep artistic inheritance and keeping it in conversation with the present.

Being Megh Mandal Sansthan means holding three commitments together, at all times.

01

Reverence for what came before

India’s artistic heritage — from Raja Ravi Varma’s paintings to the broader traditions of Indian visual culture is treated not as a static archive, but as a living source of meaning, memory and identity. The Sansthan’s role is to understand this inheritance deeply enough to represent it honestly, and to help others rediscover its significance.

02

Respect for those who carry it today

Heritage does not preserve itself artists do. A central part of the Sansthan’s vision is ensuring that painters and artists, across every region of the country, receive the recognition, encouragement and platform their work deserves. Chitranjali exists precisely for this purpose: to name the tradition, and to honour the people actively keeping it alive.

03

Responsibility towards what comes next

A tradition survives only if it reaches the next generation. The Sansthan is committed to connecting students, young artists and new audiences with India’s painting traditions through exhibitions, lectures, cultural programmes and research so that this inheritance is not simply remembered, but continually renewed.

Guided by these commitments, the Sansthan works towards a future where

  • 01Raja Ravi Varma’s artistic vision, and India’s wider painting traditions, are known and understood far beyond specialist or academic circles.
  • 02Artists from every part of the country have access to a shared national and eventually international stage.
  • 03Art exhibitions, cultural dialogue and research are not occasional events, but a sustained, ongoing part of public life.
  • 04India’s artistic heritage is presented to the world with the depth, seriousness and pride it deserves.

This is the long-term, far-reaching endeavour Megh Mandal Sansthan has undertaken one that depends on the support of society, the art community, institutions, the corporate world and art enthusiasts alike. It is, in every sense, a humble tribute to Indian art, culture and the consciousness of the nation and an invitation to everyone who shares that vision to help carry it forward.

Help carry it forward
